Use:
Baler twine is used to support plants grown vertically in a Mittleider garden by tying the twine to a lower “tie-wire” and an upper support – usually 9-gauge wire – or other very strong support. Both the tie-wire and upper support (wire) run the length of the soil bed or grow-box served. The typical length of one piece of baler twine in a Mittleider garden is 10′. Before tying the twine to the wires in your garden, tie an overhand knot in each end of the twine to prevent fraying. Plants grown vertically can be grown closer together for greater yields over traditional spacing as long as plants are pruned properly. (See the Mittleider Gardening Course for details.)
Care for baler twine:
Remove baler twine from the garden at the end of the growing season, sterilize in mild bleach solution, (1 part bleach to 9 parts water), rinse in plain water, let dry, then store in a clean, dry area until your next growing season.
